The AGM went well - what followed was even better, a presentation entitled 'The Herring Lassies' given by Stanley Bruce - Chairman of Banffshire Maritime & Heritage Associaton, accompanied by Rosemary Sanderson author of the book of the same title
The audience was treated to a wonderful look at life in a bygone era when the herring were so prized. There is little doubt that the herring age played its part in bringing wealth to the nation
The book, so well researched and written by Rosemary, is difficult to lay down once you begin reading it. One wonders at the lives of these girls as they worked so hard to make a future for themselves and of course earn money to help keep their families
Stans presentation is in demand and now I know why. (picture, Rosemary & Stan, courtesy of Peter Charlesworth)
As for the AGM itself, well it went well and a new committee were elected. Same as the old one really but we have to go through the formalities as per our constitution.
The team is loyal and hardworking, it is a pleasure to be a part of it. The minutes will appear on the website once written in detail and available. It was nice to have more residents at this meeting than in previous years. It was also good to see the Village Hall echoing to the sound of a meeting as it has done in the past - for more that one hundred years in fact.
