Harbour scene

This picture taken at low level, very low level and there is a story, shows how peaceful and tranquil the harbour is. I would like to see another photo from the same position in a few years time when it may be possible to make a comparison with what I hope will be a busy marina and this scene.

Positioning for this photo took some time and it would be fair to say, after it was taken the words photographer, wet, annoyed and amused could all be used in one sentence. If anyone was watching and had a camera it would have made a good shot.

On the subject of photography, does anyone out there have any old photo's of the harbour. I would like to borrow and scan them and use them in connection with the 'Blog' and local Heritage group. If you can help you can contact me by clicking the comment link below. Nothing will appear on this page. All comments are checked for content and will only be added to the site with the writers permission.

Some more Gala Day fun! (2007)

I posted a photo of Linda's team yesterday. Today the spotlight's on Portgordon Clowns. They've won the race previously and are very popular with the crowd, especially the kids. Let's hope they enter the fray this year!

Now, Who's havin' a laugh?

Just time to have a laugh - you wouldn't believe how hard they work to make it a success. Probably this picture sums up the day for all those involved in setting up. Not mentioning names but they were in one of the most popular attractions on the day - starts with beer and ends with tent!

Raft Race

This picture was taken just before the start of the 2007 Raft Race

At least one member of the team has taken part in every race since the first Gala Day. A proud record and perhaps an inspiration to others.

We know this individual will be in this years race, after which there is talk of stepping down! Let's wait and see

Good luck to them on the day.

I'll try and show a few more picture of previous Gala days just so that those that have not attended a Portgordon Gala Day can get a flavour of what it's all about

The 'Lampie Hoose'

The 'Lampie Hoose' - located in Gordon Square Portgordon. - featured here because it's the venue for most Harbour Group meetings. The meeting times and dates are published on the main website (see link below) and are open to all members. If you are interested in coming along informally then that's fine, just turn up on the day

As an aside, the 'Lampie Hoose' used to house the village library and prior to that I understand it was the village post office. It's currently a facility for local groups to meet and greet and certainly caters for a large number of activities
One thing for certain, if you enter this building you are assured of a warm and friendly welcome, because this is 'Portgordon'

Portgordon Harbour from the air

This is the final picture of Brians aerial views over the village. I think you will agree he's done a really good job.

The locals among you will easily recognise the area just above the harbour as the site for the Gala static displays and events arena. My plan is to sketch a plan showing the layout in due course. Of course it's not quite as big as Disneyland, even so, a sketch may be helpful for our more distant visitors on the day.

Full details will be published in the Gala Day programme, which will also double as a prize draw ticket. More details about this nearer the time.

If you want to see more examples of Brians work here's a link

Portgordon from the air close-up

Think you will agree this is a great aerial photo. The harbour looks good in this view taken at high water

Seeing the old track-line of the railway makes me wish it was still there. That's nostalgia for you.

Tomorrow will see the final picture of the series - it's worth waiting for

Following yesterdays picture this one shows Brian approaching the village and clearly shows the harbour. There's more to come. Try again tomorrow

It's certainly made an interesting feature for the 'Blog'

Portgordon Village

How's this for a view of the Village. The picture was taken by Brian 'Turbo' Tunnard who has links with Portgordon.

Brian has very kindly given the Harbour Group permission to use this and a few more pictures on the website.

You can see the old railway trackline in the foreground as it makes it's way to Portgordon. It's now part of the 'Speyside Way' - Buckie is in the centre left and the Bin 'o Cullen is in the background.

Come back tomorrow when you may well see a closer view

Another option for the Harbour (Marina) layout

Click on the picture to increase it's size

Harbour Layout

Here’s an alternative layout for the harbour. Nothing is cast in concrete yet. The Group will always look at new ideas. This particular layout is the result of a design study by a firm that may wish to tender when the time comes. The south to north feature for the pontoons is considered to be a good alternative to the originally proposed east to west, however this is open to debate and that’s probably some way off yet. One item that will not be negotiable is the placement of access ramps to the pontoons. These are a requirement to enable access for most ages and abilities, let’s face it not everyone can or wants to climb up and down vertical ladders although these are likely to be in place to service some individual, beam-on, moorings.
